Waltari inspirerades av det forntida egyptiska litterära verket om Sinuhe, Sinuhes berättelse, från Mellersta riket och cirka 1800 f.Kr Mika Waltari's book Sinuhe the Egyptian is a master piece, Finnish literature at its peak. It combines historical facts, imaginative characters and wisdom with adventures and religion. It is by far the best book that I have ever read. You can learn a great deal more from this book than you can ever learn in e.g. in school. Sinuhé, el egipcio / Sinuhe, the Egyptian, introduces us to the fascinating and faraway world of the Egypt of the pharaohs.

Under the names of Kaires, Ptahhotep, Hordjedef, Khakheperreseneb, Khety, or Neferty have come down to us some of the most beautiful pieces of ancient Egyptian literature.5 None of them have a narrative fictional character.6 The Teaching of Khety or the Book of Kemit significantly surpass Sinuhe in the number of ostraca coming from Deir el This 4,000 year old tale provides insight into the world and mind of an Egyptian, and is just another example of Egyptian brilliance.

"This anthology contains all the substantial surviving works from the golden age of Ancient Egyptian fictional literature (c.1940-1640 B.C.). Composed by an anonymous author in the form of a funerary autobiography, the Tale tells how the courtier Sinuhe flees Egypt at the death of his king.

The Story of Sinuhe was possibly the first historical novel. It tells of a servant in the palace who overhears a plot to kill the Pharaoh Amenemhet I. Fearing that he would be implicated, he ran from Egypt and settled in Syria where he raised a family. Upon being published, The Egyptian outsold every other novel published that year, and remains a classic; readers worldwide have testified to its life-changing power. It is a full-bodied re-creation of a largely forgotten era in the world s history: the Egypt of the 14th century B.C.E., when Sinuhe egyptiläinen. - Mika Waltari.

Love egyptian stores but was a bit disappointed at first and thought perhaps I had made a mistake buying this book but as I continued to read found I was looking forward to Sinuhe's adventures. Not the best book I have read but not the worst by far. The beginning of the story is lost (to R 5), but the papyrus otherwise preserves the full text, including a colophon at the end (without the scribe's name).
