The biopsychosocial model applies to us all. The biopsychosocial model is great for helping us understand how mental health conditions might develop. However, we shouldn’t only think of it as being useful for people who are not mentally well. It applies to us all. We can its three areas as postive forces to improve our mental health.

The biopsychosocial model has been widely adopted and promoted in different domains, including medical schools, major medical organisations, social work departments, public health, counselling, and some fields of psychology (Kaplan & Coogan, 2005). Assumptions of the biopsychosocial model states that:1, Psychological and physiological processes are closely interrelated. 2, any imbalance in these processes may lead to ill health.3, Relationships between psychological and biological variables are generally bidirectional. 4, Health outcomes may be altered via appropriately designed interventions.
